LCD Screens
LCD displays are made up of a set number of pixels and each pixel is made from 3 sub pixels; one Red, one Blue and one Green. Every sub-pixel is addressed by its own transistor and so the manufacture of a glass substrate is very complex. Due to the nature of the manufacturing process, occasional defects can occur. Pixel defects or failures cannot be fixed or repaired and can happen at any stage in the LCD’s life. To regulate the acceptability of defects and to protect the end user, ISO have created a standard for manufacturers to follow. ISO 13406-2 recommends how many defaults are acceptable in a display before it should be replaced, within the terms & conditions of warranty. All reputable manufacturers conform to and support the ISO 13406-2 standard.
** Please check the accepted tolerances on manufacturer sites before returning TFT's due to dead pixels as accepted tolerances will not be regarded as faulty.

Accessories and options for these products are not covered by this guarantee.
Guarantee perios and geographical limits
The Guarantee period is three (3) years from the date of sale to the first end user as a new device (guarantee period). An end user is exclusively a person who acquires the product for their own use and not for the purposes of commercial resale.
The Guarantee applies only to products bought in the European Union, Switzerland, in Liechtenstein, Norway or Iceland (geographical limits). Guarantee claims can only be lodged in these countries.
Guarantee claims
During the guarantee period NEC shall rectify faults based on material or processing defects. The guarantee claim is dealt with within the geographical limits of the guarantee at NEC’s discretion through repairs, the replacement of defective parts or by exchanging the products for products of equal quality without invoicing labour or material costs. The performance of guarantee claims shall cause neither an extension nor a restart of the guarantee period. Ownership of replaced parts reverts to NEC.
Guarantee claims are only accepted by NEC if the defective product is presented within the guarantee period together with the original invoice and the original receipt from the dealer who sold the product to the first end user (specifying the date of purchase, model designation, product serial number and the dealer’s name and address).
Guarantee exclusions
The guarantee does not apply to damage or defects for which NEC does not bear responsibility and which include but are not limited to the following:
- Incorrect use, mechanical damage (e.g. scratches, pressure or break points), incorrect storage or cleaning, transport damage, misuse or other fault of the customer or a third party;

Accessory parts such as boxes, packaging, batteries or other consumables which are used in conjunction with the product and have to be replaced as expected are not covered by the guarantee.
Expendable parts such as lamps and dust filters for projectors are excluded from the guarantee (separate guarantee terms may apply to these).
Pixel errors are unavoidable in LCD and DLP technology. They only constitute a fault under the terms of this guarantee if they deviate from the product specification in accordance with the data sheet (e. g. ISO 13406-2).
Products whose serial numbers have been modified, removed or made illegible are excluded from the guarantee;
Should the customer complain about faults although they are excluded from the guarantee, NEC reserves the right to charge the customer for costs thus incurred.
Guarantee processing
Guarantee claims within the geographical limits of the guarantee are dealt with in consultation with the NEC service hotline or other NEC service partners authorised by NEC (see www.nec-display-solutions.com).
Other claims
This guarantee does not impair or influence the buyer’s statutory claims against the seller due to material damage. Such claims can be asserted instead of the guarantees agreed to here at the buyer’s discretion.
Claims under the German Product Liability Act and the buyer’s other mandatory legal rights also remain unaffected.
Limitation of liability and benefits
In cases of slight negligence, NEC’s liability is limited to direct losses foreseeable and typical of this kind of contract. Liability is excluded in case of slightly negligent breach of immaterial contractual obligations.
In so far as NEC’S liability is excluded or limited, this also applies with regard to personal liability for damages on the part of its salaried employees, wage-earners, members of staff, representatives and vicarious agents.
The above limitations of liability do not apply to customer claims due to physical injury and damage to health or in case of loss of life.
With this guarantee declaration NEC exclusively guarantees that the product is free of material and manufacturing faults.
Benefits over and above those guaranteed here by NEC in case of claims are not covered by this declaration.
Applicable Law; Place of Jurisdiction
The laws of the Federal Republic of Germany apply.
Munich is agreed upon as the place of jurisdiction for all disputes with general merchants, corporate bodies under public law or separate assets governed by public law. The same place of jurisdiction applies if the customer has no general domestic place of jurisdiction, or moves their domicile or normal place of residence abroad following conclusion of the agreement or if their domicile or normal place of residence is not known at the time that an action is brought.
Projector Lamps
Introduction
We only sell lamps that perform to the original manufacturers specification to ensure that your projector operates at its’ optimum performance levels. We do not sell copy lamps.
Risks of 3rd party lamps
There is an increasing amount of product emerging from the developing world that have avoided regulation in production and in choosing to never supply you these products we will not expose you to these risks: -
- Health & Safety – The item you install in your projector is the result of a highly complex manufacturing process combining hazardous chemicals inside a glass capsule pressurised to over 200 atmospheres that, once 20kVof power is supplied, will then heat to over 6,000 degrees C. We wouldn’t want our resellers or their customers to handle a product that hadn’t first gone through strict regulation regarding manufacture and certainly wouldn’t expose them to the resulting litigation from an injury, explosion or fire.
- Performance – Over ten years of research & development has gone into the development of the projector lamp, which is then tailored to the design of each projector models’ optics. We wouldn’t risk 3rd party production techniques being able to provide the same performance levels in terms of brightness, colour rendition and, most importantly, lamp life (a small percentage saving in lamp cost is obviously a false economy if it means that the lamp will need replacing again much earlier).
- Warranty – As soon as a 3rd party lamp is used in a projector, its’ warranty is invalid. Bearing in mind that this electrical component could damage the performance of other projector components such as the power supply and ballast, this could be a very expensive risk we wouldn’t want you to take, not to mention the inconvenience of getting the projector repaired or replaced.
- Legality – 3rd party manufacturers often flaunt the Intellectual Property rights of the original manufacturer. For us to sell the product could be illegal.
Branded Lamps
Branded lamps is just another way of saying 3rd party lamps. All the above risks apply as they do not perform to the specification of the original manufacturer’s lamps. Branded lamp literature states that their performance is significantly below that of the original manufacturer and will not quote a lamp life though these words rarely make it to their reseller’s media.
Identifying a copy lamp
It is not easy to identify a non genuine lamp and will no doubt get tougher in time.
- Price – If the price looks too good to be true ask if the lamp is an original.
- Branding – If it’s not being sold as the original manufacturers lamp but under someone else’s brand as a lamp for that projector then it will be a copy. The only current exception to this is Diamond Lamps www.diamondlamps.net that use identical bulbs sourced and supported by the original manufacturer in lower cost of ownership solutions.
- Packaging – The majority or lamp boxes do not state the projector manufacturers name making them hard to distinguish from copy lamps. Using our experience we can give the following guidelines: -
- If it says “compatible with”, these are not original products
- If the labelling lists a series of projector models from different projector manufacturers, these are not original products
- If it has a company name and that name isn’t the projector manufacturer then this is probably a branded lamp and not an original
- An exception to the above is where one projector manufacturer build product for another manufacturer. For example Sharp made a few projectors for Philips and Sharp always put their logo on their boxes. The rule here is to be sure that you always recognise the manufacturer name, as it will be a household brand.
Projector Lamps Returns Policy
Digisound Ltd. provides an unprecedented 90 day warranty on all lamps for any brand for faults due to defective materials or workmanship. The warranty commences from the day of despatch from Digisound Ltd. and is extended if the manufacturer’s warranty is longer than 90 days.
Requesting a Return Merchandise Authorization (R.M.A.)
Once an RMA number is given it remains valid for 10 business days (two weeks). If the lamps are not received in that time, the RMA will be closed.
Broken in transit
Breakages must be reported immediately upon receipt to enable us to claim with our carriers. Unfortunately, any claim outside of this period cannot be supported.
Ordered in error / No longer required
If you have ordered the wrong item by mistake or you no longer requires the lamp, in most cases we will take the lamp back subject to a restocking fee. As long as the lamps come back in perfect condition, this fee is typically 20% and will not exceed 30% of the price you paid, unless we advised you at the time of purchase that it was a special purchase item and could not be returned.
Defective Product / Warranty claim
If an item does not work or stops working by what appears to be a product defect, please use the returns system to get the lamp back to us.
We will then determine the fault with the relevant manufacturer and credit the lamp in full if applicable.
If a replacement is required ahead of the unit being assessed, please place a new order.
Important Notice: Many manufacturers refuse to recognise a warranty claim without the serial number of the projector, therefore failure to provide it within the warranty period may invalidate our ability to support the claim.
Incorrect product supplied
We work hard to ensure the right product is shipped to you but in the event that an incorrect item is shipped we will credit the lamp in full once returned. Please consult with our sales team before ordering a replacement to ensure that we do not repeat the error.
Please note that in all circumstances a Return Merchandise Authorisation (R.M.A.) number must be obtained before shipping the product back to us. Products must be returned in their original packaging, which must not be defaced in any way, consequently, we recommend that they should be shipped inside extra packaging. Unfortunately, because it will limit our ability to resell the lamp module, if these conditions are not adhered to, we reserve the right to levy an increased restocking charge or reject the goods.
